With the fall coloring the leaves a yellow to match this guy’s shell, he was sure doing a great job blending in—I almost stepped on him because I didn’t see him at first! I decided to snap his photo—but apparently he’s kinda camera shy and retreated into his shell.

I’ve lived in suburban NJ for almost my whole life, and I have never seen one of these guys (except in books in stuff)! It was really cool to see this bug in person.

A (big) spider in its web. South Orange, NJ.
Though you can’t tell from this photo, I swear this spider was really quite big…like, probably the size of a quarter. Which, for suburban NJ, is pretty huge.
